Emily Apollonio is an analog astronaut and Human Factors Consultant specializing in astronaut training and mission preparation. She holds a master’s degree in human factors with dual specializations in Aerospace and Systems Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where she also earned her Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Science with a minor in Aviation Safety. With over 10 years of experience in aircraft accident investigation and root cause analysis, Emily focuses on enhancing safety and performance through human factors in extreme environments. She is an adjunct faculty at Case Western Reserve University for the Aerospace Physiology program, teaching students about space analogs and integrating research. As the Founder and CEO at Interstellar Performance Labs, she has spearheaded initiatives like the International Guidelines and Standards for Space Analogs (IGSA), the Confidential Safety Reporting Program for Space Analogs, and developed innovative training programs for analog astronauts. A former competitive athlete and experienced fitness coach, she integrates her understanding of physical readiness and mental performance optimization into her work, helping crews prepare for the physical and mental demands of space exploration.
