Since 2019, Rob Reynolds has served as the Data Scientist for the Human Health and Performance Directorate at NASA Johnson Space Center, initially through the Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH) at Baylor College of Medicine, but now as a contractor through KBR, Inc. While he continues to provide analytic support to various research projects, his primary role is as a Network Scientist for the Human Systems Risk Board (HSRB). Rob has published extensively on topics such as the long-term health and mortality of space travelers, the use of machine learning and AI for space exploration, and the use of causal diagrams for human system risk management.
Rob started his career as a research statistical analyst, and over the course of 12 years worked on research grants at Arizona Cancer Center, UC San Francisco, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and other research institutions. He also worked in analytics in the health insurance industry, where he led teams of statisticians and data scientists researching population health at large Commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid plans. Since 2014 he has consulted as an expert witness on epidemiological and biostatistical issues for state and Federal courts across the US.
Dr. Reynolds earned his Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from the University of Arizona, his Doctor of Philosophy in Epidemiology from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UT Health), and his Master of Science in Statistics from Texas A&M University. He is an accredited Professional Statistician (PStat ® ) with the American Statistical Association, and a Full Member of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Honor Society.
